The second choice after round brilliant diamonds, princess cut diamonds are making a big comeback. Beautiful in its own way, many people prefer the angularity and symmetry of princess cut diamonds.
Princess cut diamonds are becoming increasingly popular and have caught the attention of people everywhere. The princess cut was invented in 1963 by Basil Watermeyer from Johannesburg. Inspired by its forerunner, the Barion cut, the princess works best with deep stones, allowing maximum weight retention. It is second in popularity after the round and is commonly square in shape although it comes in a rectangular fashion as well. Princess cut diamonds with cut corners are also widely available. The princess cut has naturally higher light dispersion than ordinary square diamonds and any inclusions are less visible, making it more attractive than other shapes.
